What We Do
In India, there is a great need and opportunity to use and learn from arts-based methodologies in healthcare. We respond to this need and opportunity to bring the arts into the sphere of health in our country. We will develop and hone the use of arts based processes to support health programmes at community and institutional levels. We aim to develop rigorous, ethical sustained practice, research and training in the application of arts in healthcare (mental, physical and social health) in collaboration with individuals and institutions.
We are interested in the intentional and specific use of artistic and creative practices and processes towards health-oriented goals. Our aim is to help strengthen structural systems to sustain such work and understand how aspects of the arts can support health outcomes.
Our Work Involves:
– Promotive mental health care through the arts that is community-oriented
– The application of specific arts and creative interventions in mental health, medicine and public health practice
– Research into the health benefits of the arts and the effectiveness of interventions using the arts and creative methods to achieve health goals
– Using arts-based methods in health research
– Training health care workers, social workers and mental health practitioners to use the arts for their own health and in their work
– Training artist-facilitators in essential skills, theory and reflexive frameworks to be able to work with communities towards health goals ethically and effectively.
We work in collaborations with those who are at the intersections of art and culture, public health and community to reduce barriers to health and well being. We work alongside existing healthcare and health systems, to support and assist in the process of healing, in conjunction with health interventions, partnering with doctors, health care professionals and experts in the field. We aim to conduct research into the use of arts within medicine and public health and corresponding protocols, and develop community based mental health care services.
